On November 26, 2024, Wanyange Girls’ School in Jinja hosted an inspiring ICT Club and Robotics Exhibition, showcasing the innovation and creativity of its students. Organized in collaboration with KAWA and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the event celebrated the potential of young women in STEM.

Leadership and Vision

The ICT Club, led by Mirembe Florah (President) and supported by a team of dedicated leaders, has grown into a thriving hub of innovation. In her opening speech, Florah highlighted the club’s commitment to solving real-world problems through robotics and STEM activities, stating, “We are shaping a future where women lead in technology and innovation.”

Exhibition Highlights

Students presented groundbreaking projects, including:

  • A solar-powered air cooler for indoor comfort.
  • A room-tracking device for remote activity monitoring.
  • Robotic projects focusing on energy transition, hybrid cars, and energy storage.

The club’s robotics sections featured:

  • LEGO Robotics missions addressing energy challenges.
  • Balloon Popping Robotics, combining creativity with engineering.
  • Rex Robotics, showcasing real-world applications.

Achievements and Goals

The club proudly represented Wanyange Girls in a national robotics competition, earning recognition for their teamwork and innovative designs. They also promote cybersecurity awareness and ICT safety within the school community. Looking forward, the club aims to expand its projects and inspire more girls to pursue STEM careers.

Special thanks were extended to Mrs. Deborah Basekanakyo (Headmistress), Ms. Sarah Awebwa (Deputy Headteacher), Mr. Martin Kasadha (Head of ICT Department), and the school’s partners, UCC and KAWA, for their support and mentorship.
