For decades, farmers across Uganda have faced recurring challenges: unpredictable weather patterns, poor access to reliable market information, and post-harvest losses that threaten food security. Many still depend on outdated practices and word-of-mouth advice that can lead to devastating results. Recognizing these problems, the creative students at Kansanga Seed Secondary School decided to use their ICT skills to make farming smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable.
GreenLink UG functions as a one-stop web platform where farmers can register and access personalized agricultural support. Upon registration, users gain access to weather forecasts, crop management tips, market trends, and post-harvest storage guidance. A built-in inquiry system allows farmers to send specific questions and receive timely feedback from agricultural experts or administrators. By bringing these digital tools closer to rural communities, GreenLink UG helps farmers make data-driven decisions that improve yields and reduce risks.
The project also features an admin dashboard that enables monitoring of farmer activity, inquiry responses, and regional data. This allows educators, agricultural officers, and system managers to track impact and provide targeted interventions. The innovation’s core goal is to reduce losses, increase efficiency, and improve the livelihoods of thousands of farmers who rely on small-scale agriculture for survival.
