Aduku Secondary School Sparks Digital Transformation with ICT Club Launch

Aduku Secondary School in Kwania District officially launched its ICT Club in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and KAWA Uganda. The event, held in the school’s ICT laboratory, featured a comprehensive training session, focusing on equipping students with practical digital skills and establishing a strong foundation for the club’s operations.

The launch began with an introduction to the vision of ICT Clubs, highlighting UCC’s commitment to promoting digital literacy and innovation among young learners across Uganda. Students took part in electing their club leaders, a process that encouraged active participation and accountability. A standard ICT Club Constitution, developed by KAWA and supported by UCC, was handed over to guide the club’s leadership and sustainability.

To ensure that the newly formed club is well-resourced, KAWA provided access to the ICT Club Portal (www.ictclubs.ug), which offers coding tutorials, activity templates, and training materials. Club leaders and patrons received a digital ICT Club Handbook to serve as a reference for planning and running club activities. Video tutorials covering Scratch, Python, and cyber safety were also shared, alongside innovation curriculum materials aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The training session was practical and interactive. Students were introduced to ICT lab organization, computer maintenance, and troubleshooting, including system reinstallation and virus scanning. A dedicated session on cyber safety focused on online protection, recognizing scams, and responsible digital behavior. The learners also explored introductory programming with Scratch and Python, and discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied to solve local challenges.

The KAWA team, with UCC’s backing, engaged the school leadership to ensure long-term success for the club. A meeting with the headteacher, ICT teachers, and club patrons resulted in the drafting of the ICT Club Annual Activity Calendar, which will guide future training, innovation projects, and participation in competitions.
KAWA Uganda and UCC have committed to continuous mentorship and technical support for Aduku SS ICT Club. This includes follow-up visits, advanced coding workshops, and facilitation for the school to participate in upcoming regional and national ICT innovation competitions.

The successful launch of the ICT Club at Aduku Secondary School marks a significant step in advancing digital skills among learners in Kwania District. With the partnership of UCC and KAWA, the club is set to become a hub of creativity, problem-solving, and innovation for both the school and the surrounding community.
This launch is part of a nationwide effort led by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in partnership with KAWA Uganda to promote digital literacy and innovation in schools. With trained student leaders, access to essential learning resources, and an engaged school administration, Aduku Secondary School is now better positioned to implement practical ICT activities and contribute to Uganda’s growing digital ecosystem. Through continued collaboration with UCC and KAWA, the ICT Club is expected to grow into a functional platform for learning, creativity, and participation in national-level competitions.
