Kiyuni SS Sparks Digital Dreams in Mubende

On 2nd June 2025, the quiet town of Kiyuni in Mubende District buzzed with excitement as Kiyuni Secondary School officially launched its ICT Club. Situated just 160 km west of Kampala along the Kampala–Mityana–Mubende highway, the school stands as a digital beacon for neighboring towns such as Mityana (60 km away) and Kiboga (40 km away).
The launch, held in the school’s ICT Lab, was led by Christine Nambi from KAWA (Kisubi Associated Writers’ Agency), with technical support from Bbossa Musa, and in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). The event brought together 31 students from Senior 1 to Senior 4, eager to step into the world of digital skills and innovation.
The students participated in hands-on activities ranging from basic coding and graphic design to computer troubleshooting and safe internet practices. They were also introduced to KAWA CONNECT, a platform that will guide their self-learning journey beyond the classroom.

In her remarks, Christine Nambi highlighted that the ICT Club is not just about learning computer skills but also about building problem-solvers and innovators who can address real-life challenges. The headteacher, [Insert Headteacher Name], expressed appreciation to UCC and KAWA for supporting rural schools, emphasizing that the club will “help students unlock new opportunities in education and careers.”
