ICT Club Launched at Nambulu Secondary School to Enhance Digital Skills in Sironko District
SIRONKO DISTRICT, EASTERN UGANDA — Nambulu Secondary School has officially launched its ICT Club in a move aimed at strengthening digital literacy, innovation, and practical technology skills among learners. The launch and training were conducted on Monday, 18th February 2025, facilitated by Moses Wamanga under the Kisubi Associated Writers Agency (KAWA) as part of the national ICT Clubs programme supported by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF).
About Nambulu Secondary School
Nambulu Secondary School is located in Busulani Village, Bugimunye Parish, Sironko District, within the Sebei/Bugisu sub-region of Eastern Uganda.
Sironko District lies on the slopes of Mount Elgon, approximately 280–300 kilometers northeast of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. The nearest major urban center is Mbale City, which serves as the region’s commercial and administrative hub and supports surrounding districts including Sironko.
The school serves a rural community and is progressively embracing ICT as a tool for improving education and fostering innovation.
Purpose of the ICT Club Launch
The primary objective of the visit was to officially establish the ICT Club and introduce learners and school leadership to its purpose.
The initiative is designed to equip students with practical ICT skills, innovation capabilities, and the ability to use technology to address real-life challenges within their communities.
Learners Express Strong Interest in Digital Skills
Before the training, learners shared their expectations, highlighting a strong desire to:
- Gain hands-on computer skills beyond classroom theory
- Learn how to maintain and safeguard ICT equipment
- Improve internet usage and digital literacy
- Explore coding, innovation, and digital content creation
Students also emphasized interest in teamwork, mentorship, and preparation for careers in the digital world.
Building ICT Capacity and Responsibility
During the training, facilitators explained that the ICT Club aims to:

- Provide practical digital skills beyond the standard curriculum

The ICT Club launch featured a recorded message from UCC Executive Director, Mr. Nyombi Thembo, who emphasized:

Establishment of ICT Club Leadership
KAWA worked closely with the school administration led by Headteacher Mr. Massa John, alongside ICT teachers including Mr. Kaabi Muhammad, to establish a structured ICT Club leadership system.
Students were guided on leadership roles, accountability, and effective management of the club. A standard ICT Club constitution template was also provided to support operations.
