Rweikiniro Secondary School ICT Club Launch – Advancing Digital Literacy in Ntungamo

On 20th June 2025, Rweikiniro Secondary School in Ntungamo District proudly launched its ICT Club, with training facilitated by Kyasima Freedom from KAWA Uganda (Kisubi Associated Writers’ Agency) in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). This milestone event was designed to equip students with digital knowledge, problem-solving skills, and innovation-driven learning opportunities to prepare them for both academic success and future careers in the digital era.

The launch brought together students from Senior One, Senior Two, Senior Three, Senior Four, and Senior Six, all eager to learn new skills and explore ICT innovations. Learners displayed exceptional enthusiasm and interest in developing technology-based projects that address real-world community challenges. Plans were set for regular ICT Club sessions starting July 2025, focusing on project-based learning, coding clinics, and preparation for regional ICT showcases and competitions.

Location of the School

Rweikiniro Secondary School is located in Ntungamo District, approximately 320 km southwest of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. Visitors traveling from Kampala can access the school via the Kampala–Masaka–Mbarara highway, with the journey taking about 5–6 hours by road. The school is strategically positioned near major towns such as Mbarara (40 km), Kabale (80 km), and Rukungiri (65 km), making it easily accessible for those wishing to visit or support its ICT initiatives.

Feedback from Participants

Students expressed excitement about the new ICT Club, noting that the training gave them practical insights into technology and digital innovation. The school’s ICT Club Patron also commended the initiative, describing it as a “gateway to creative thinking and real-world problem-solving through technology.”

George William Nyombi Thembo (Executive Director), and all UCC staff for their unwavering commitment to promoting ICT in secondary schools across Uganda.
