Nyakahita Muhirwa Vocational SS ICT Club Launch Mitooma

On Monday, June 9, 2025, a significant step towards digital empowerment was taken at Nyakahita Muhirwa Vocational Secondary School in Mitooma District with the successful launch of its ICT Club. This initiative, a collaborative effort between KAWA Uganda and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), aimed to introduce students to essential ICT skills through hands-on training. The session, held at the school’s own ICT Lab, was facilitated by Kyasima Freedom, a trainer from KAWA Uganda. The school’s ICT Club Patron, Ankunda Babra, and Headteacher, Indyabahika Emmanuel, oversaw the event.
The training proved highly successful, with a total of 38 students and 2 teachers actively participating. Learners engaged enthusiastically with various software applications, including MIT App Inventor, Visual Studio Code, and even explored basic robotics. The students gained practical skills, notably learning how to create a mobile app themselves, which sparked immense interest. Their high motivation was evident as they eagerly continued practicing what they had learned independently after the session concluded.
Despite the overall success, a few challenges were encountered during the training. Some of the school’s computers experienced technical issues, which unfortunately limited the smooth installation and running of MIT App Inventor. To address this and ensure future training sessions are seamless, it was recommended that a thorough technical check of all available computer systems be conducted before any upcoming sessions. This proactive measure will help identify and resolve any hardware or software discrepancies, ensuring all machines are optimally configured and ready for intensive application use.
The launch of the ICT Club at Nyakahita Muhirwa Vocational SS was a resounding success, igniting a strong interest in technology among the students. Despite the minor computer issues, the day clearly demonstrated the immense potential these young learners possess. The club is set to empower students to develop essential digital skills and confidently explore the exciting world of technology, promising a bright future for digital innovation in Mitooma.
