On Wednesday, 4th June 2025, St. Joseph Secondary School Konge officially launched its first-ever ICT Club. This marked a transformative moment for the school, aimed at empowering students with essential digital skills, inspiring innovation, and preparing learners for success in an increasingly digital world.

The event was part of a broader nationwide digital literacy initiative led by UCC and KAWA Uganda, seeking to bridge the digital divide and promote ICT in education across Uganda. Over 30 students attended the training session. Learners showed high levels of enthusiasm and commitment, with everyone signing in and sharing their contact details. Students were introduced to MIT App Inventor, Visual Studio Code, and other foundational ICT tools.

Challenges Faced

  1. No existing ICT Club structure at the school before the launch.
  2. Power fluctuations interrupted parts of the hands-on training.

Recommendations

  • Begin with foundational digital skills such as typing, internet safety, and use of Microsoft Office.
  • Incorporate offline digital resources like KAWA CONNECT to overcome connectivity issues.
  • Establish consistent mentorship, especially from senior students or teachers, to guide ICT club activities.
  • Advocate for improved ICT infrastructure at the school.

Message from the Patron

Mr. Miiro Henry, the ICT Club Patron, thanked UCC and KAWA for their tremendous support and encouraged students to embrace this opportunity fully. He emphasized the club’s role in helping learners discover and harness their digital potential.

Student Feedback

“We deeply appreciate UCC and KAWA’s efforts. For many of us, this was our first time using real digital tools to solve problems. We’re inspired!”
