On the 25th of July 2025, Ndeeba Secondary School in Kayunga District joined the growing network of Ugandan schools embracing digital transformation through the official launch of its ICT Club. This milestone event was organized by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in partnership with Kisubi Associated Writers’ Agency (KAWA), under their national strategy to empower learners with digital skills for innovation, creativity, and 21st-century problem-solving.

The launch event was held at the school’s ICT lab and was facilitated by Christine Nambi, supported by Apollo Lyada and local coordinator Mukaneza Priscilla. A total of 58 students from Senior Two to Senior Six participated enthusiastically in the training and club formation. The session began with registration, where learners provided their names, classes, contact details, and signatures—reflecting the serious commitment of participants from both science and arts streams.

A key part of the event was the democratic election of the ICT Club’s Executive Committee. Kalungi Ashiraf from Senior Five was elected President, while Nafula Sandra (S.3W) assumed the role of Vice President. Other executive members included Magala Shafick (S.5 Science) as Secretary (Boy), Nabiosse Bushirah (S.2N) as Secretary (Girl), and Babirye Christine (S.5S) as Treasurer. Mobilizers and class representatives were also elected to ensure inclusive participation and effective communication across all class levels.

During the practical training sessions, students explored mobile app development using MIT App Inventor and were introduced to basic programming concepts. The facilitator emphasized the importance of using ICT to solve real-world challenges in their communities, aligning with national efforts to build local innovation capacity among youth.

By the end of the day, Ndeeba SS had not only formed a fully functional ICT Club with an elected leadership team, but also inspired students to actively pursue digital learning opportunities. The learners expressed their eagerness to participate in regional and national ICT competitions, and the school leadership pledged to support the club with mentorship and resource allocation.

Despite common challenges such as resource constraints and limited access to ICT materials, the school community showed a strong willingness to learn and grow in the field of technology. The energy and commitment displayed during the launch set a solid foundation for future activities.

The facilitators recommended sustained mentorship from UCC and KAWA, provision of ICT tools and connectivity, and inclusion of Ndeeba SS in upcoming innovation challenges. These steps will be key in ensuring the club’s long-term success and impact.

The success of this ICT Club launch affirms the power of collaboration between government agencies and education stakeholders in building a digitally skilled generation. KAWA Uganda and UCC extend their appreciation to the staff, students, and leadership of Ndeeba Secondary School for their warm reception, commitment, and vision toward ICT inclusion in education.
