Ndeeba Secondary School Learners Step Into Digital Innovation
KAWA Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission, successfully conducted the ICT Club launch and training at Ndeeba Secondary School in Kayunga District on 25th July 2025.
The training was held in the school ICT laboratory and was facilitated by Christine Nambi from KAWA Uganda. The activity was supported by the school leadership, including the Headteacher, Apollo Lyada, and the school contact person, Mukaneza Priscilla.
The launch was part of a national initiative aimed at empowering secondary school learners with digital skills, creativity, innovation, and practical problem-solving abilities. It also provided an opportunity for students to become part of a wider movement promoting digital literacy in schools across Uganda.
A total of 58 students from Senior Two to Senior Six actively participated in the launch. The learners came from different classes and study combinations, including Arts and Sciences. Their active participation showed strong interest in ICT, innovation, and future technology-related opportunities.
During the session, students were introduced to the purpose and benefits of the ICT Club. They learnt how the club can support teamwork, creativity, leadership, responsible technology use, and the development of practical digital projects that address school and community challenges.
A key part of the launch was the democratic election of ICT Club leaders. Students elected an executive committee, mobilisers, and class representatives to guide the club’s activities. The leadership structure included Kalungi Ashiraf as President, Nafula Sandra as Vice President, Magala Shafick and Nabiosse Bushirah as Secretaries, and Babirye Christine as Treasurer. Other elected leaders included Tumusiime Nathan and Kasujja Mubarak as mobilisers, with Zziwa Trevor, Ada Birungi, and Nassanga Christine serving as class representatives.
The training also included practical sessions where learners were introduced to the basics of mobile app development using MIT App Inventor, coding fundamentals, and the importance of using ICT to solve community problems. These activities gave learners a strong starting point for developing confidence in digital innovation.
By the end of the launch, Ndeeba Secondary School had formed a functioning ICT Club with an elected leadership committee. Students expressed interest in participating in upcoming ICT competitions, exhibitions, and innovation challenges.
The report recommended continuous mentorship and follow-up training by KAWA Uganda and UCC. It also highlighted the need for more ICT materials such as computers, internet access, and training kits to strengthen hands-on learning. In addition, the school was encouraged to support learners’ participation in regional and national ICT innovation competitions.
The launch at Ndeeba Secondary School marks an important step towards building a strong culture of digital learning in Kayunga District. With committed learners, supportive school leadership, and continued guidance from KAWA Uganda and UCC, the club is expected to grow into a vibrant space for creativity, innovation, and practical technology skills.
