Kasaana Vocational Secondary School Takes a Bold Step in Digital Innovation
KAWA Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission and UCUSAF, officially launched the ICT Club at Kasaana Vocational Secondary School in Mukono District on 27th June 2025.
The school is located in Mukono District, near the border with Kayunga District. The launch marked an important milestone in expanding ICT access, digital literacy, innovation, and sustainable use of ICT resources among learners.
The training and launch were facilitated by Ms. Christine Nambi from KAWA Uganda. During the session, she guided students and teachers through the objectives of the ICT Clubs programme and emphasized the importance of ICT literacy, creative problem-solving, teamwork, and active participation in national ICT competitions.
Learners were introduced to the purpose and benefits of ICT Clubs. They also participated in practical demonstrations covering basic coding and online research tools. In addition, students discussed possible ICT-based projects that can help solve community challenges and improve school life.

One of the key highlights of the launch was the democratic election of ICT Club leaders. Students selected their leadership team with attention to gender balance and representation from different classes. The elected leaders will be responsible for coordinating club activities, supporting proper use of the computer laboratory, and working closely with KAWA trainers during future training sessions.
The Headteacher expressed deep appreciation to UCC for equipping the school with a computer laboratory and supporting the creation of the ICT Club. He also pledged full support from the school management to ensure that the club grows, remains active, and participates in upcoming ICT competitions.
Following the launch, the next steps will include induction training for the elected club leaders, selection of community-based ICT innovation projects, and preparation for regional ICT Clubs competitions.
The launch of the ICT Club at Kasaana Vocational Secondary School is a strong step towards preparing learners for the digital age. With committed school leadership, guidance from KAWA Uganda, and support from UCC and UCUSAF, the club is expected to become a model of practical digital learning and innovation in the region.
