Watch as the brilliant student innovators from Maruzi Seed Secondary School (Apac, Northern Uganda) claim the ultimate national glory at the 10th National Conference on Communications (NCC 2026), taking home the crown with their groundbreaking Smart Plant Irrigation System.
Facing unpredictable rainfall, drought, and agricultural challenges in Northern Uganda, these young innovators designed an automated, climate-resilient drip irrigation system. Powered by an Arduino microcontroller and a capacitive soil moisture sensor, the system eliminates human guesswork—automatically sensing dry soil, triggering a relay module, and watering crops only when needed to conserve water and maximize yields.
Beyond solving school food insecurity and aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), this award-winning project proves that practical STEM learning and world-class technological solutions are thriving in Ugandan schools!
