KAWA Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission, successfully supported the official launch of the ICT Club at Wakiso School for the Deaf on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025.

The launch was facilitated by Kyasima Freedom from KAWA Uganda, with support from the school leadership led by the Headteacher, Katongole Steven Richard. The activity brought together learners from Senior One to Senior Six, who showed great interest and enthusiasm in learning about ICT, digital skills, and new innovations in technology.

The launch of the ICT Club at Wakiso School for the Deaf is an important milestone in promoting digital inclusion among learners with hearing impairment. It aimed at empowering students with practical digital knowledge, encouraging interest in technology, and inspiring innovation that can support both academic progress and future career opportunities.

During the session, learners were introduced to the purpose of the ICT Club and the role it can play in helping students develop confidence in using technology. The club is expected to provide a platform where learners can explore ICT tools, practise digital skills, work together on innovation projects, and use technology to solve real-life problems.

The event also highlighted the importance of making ICT learning accessible to all learners, including those with special needs. Through continued support from UCC, KAWA Uganda, and the school administration, the ICT Club will help strengthen digital literacy and create more opportunities for learners to participate in the digital world.

One of the key challenges experienced during the launch was unstable power supply. The inconsistency in electricity affected the duration and effectiveness of some training activities. This challenge shows the need for reliable power support to enable smooth ICT learning and club activities.

The launch of the ICT Club at Wakiso School for the Deaf marks a positive step towards inclusive technology education. With continued mentorship, support, and access to ICT resources, the club has the potential to become a strong platform for digital learning, creativity, and innovation among learners.

KAWA Uganda and the Uganda Communications Commission remain committed to supporting schools in building practical digital skills and ensuring that no learner is left behind in the digital transformation journey.
