Wanyange Girls’ School Begins Its ICT Club Journey with KAWA Uganda Training
As part of the national ICT Clubs Initiative, KAWA Uganda successfully conducted an ICT Club orientation and digital skills training at Wanyange Girls’ School in Jinja City on 14th November 2024. The training marked an important first step towards establishing a vibrant and sustainable ICT Club that will empower learners with practical digital skills, innovation, and problem-solving abilities.
The training was facilitated by Moses Wamanga and brought together 20 students alongside members of the school administration. The session focused on creating awareness about the purpose and benefits of ICT Clubs while preparing the school to establish a strong leadership structure for the club.
During the orientation, students and teachers were introduced to the role of ICT Clubs in promoting digital literacy, creativity, teamwork, innovation, and responsible technology use. A club formation guide and ICT Club constitution template were provided to support the establishment of the club.

To strengthen future learning, KAWA Uganda shared a range of digital educational resources, including access to the ICT Clubs Portal, the ICT Club Handbook, coding tutorials, training videos, curriculum materials, and project-based learning resources aligned with the national curriculum and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These resources will help learners continue developing their digital skills beyond the training session.
Students also participated in an introductory digital skills session covering ICT laboratory etiquette, proper computer maintenance practices, basic troubleshooting techniques, cybersecurity and internet safety, as well as introductory programming concepts using Scratch and Python. They were also introduced to Artificial Intelligence and its growing importance in education and the modern workplace.
The training was attended by members of the school leadership, including Mr. Martin Kasadha and the Headteacher, Ms. Deborah Basekanakyo, who expressed their commitment to supporting the successful establishment of the ICT Club. Plans were initiated to conduct student leadership elections and officially launch the club’s activities during the first term of 2025.

KAWA Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Wanyange Girls’ School through continuous mentorship, coding workshops, computer maintenance clinics, digital innovation projects, and participation in ICT competitions.
With enthusiastic learners, committed school leadership, and continued support from KAWA Uganda, Wanyange Girls’ School has laid a strong foundation for building a successful ICT Club that will inspire innovation, strengthen digital literacy, and prepare learners for the opportunities of the digital age.
