Digital Skills Training Inspires Learners at Butogota Trinity College
KAWA Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission, successfully conducted the official launch and training of the ICT Club at Butogota Trinity College in Kanungu District on Thursday, 12th June 2025.
The training was facilitated by Noah Okwalinga from KAWA Uganda, with support from the school administration led by the Headteacher, Muhwezi Wence. The ICT Club Patron, Doreen Rukundakwe, also supported the launch and will play an important role in guiding the club’s activities at the school.
The launch brought together 35 students from Senior One to Senior Six. The learners actively participated in the session and showed strong interest in acquiring practical digital skills that can help them become creative, innovative, and confident users of technology.

During the training, students were introduced to the objectives, purpose, and future goals of the ICT Club. They were guided on how the club can help them improve digital literacy, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation within the school environment.
The learners were also introduced to KAWA CONNECT, an offline e-learning system containing interactive simulations, educational videos, digital textbooks, skill-based activity modules, and many other offline learning resources. This system is especially useful in supporting learning where internet access may be limited.
The practical training focused on important digital tools and skills. Students were guided on setting up and using Visual Studio Code, developing basic mobile applications using MIT App Inventor, and exploring Scratch programming for beginners. These activities gave learners a practical starting point for coding, mobile app development, and creative programming.
Although the launch was successful, electricity interruptions disrupted the flow of training activities at some moments. This highlighted the need for reliable power support to ensure smooth ICT Club sessions and effective hands-on learning.
The report recommended the provision of more ICT tools, including laptops, routers, and projection equipment, to support practical learning. It also recommended continuous mentorship through regular online sessions facilitated by UCC and KAWA Uganda. In addition, the club was encouraged to maintain monthly activity reports to track student engagement, progress, and resource needs.
The launch of the ICT Club at Butogota Trinity College marks an important milestone in advancing digital literacy within the school. With continued support from UCC, KAWA Uganda, and the school administration, the club is expected to grow into a vibrant learning space where students can innovate, collaborate, and use technology to solve school and community challenges.
