Airforce SS Entebbe Learners Embrace Digital Skills and Innovation
KAWA Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission, successfully conducted the official ICT Club launch and training at Airforce SS Entebbe in Wakiso District on 4th June 2025.
The training was facilitated by Kyasima Freedom from KAWA Uganda, with support from the school leadership led by the Headteacher, Maj. Nathan Mpairwe. The ICT Club Patron, Moses Tumusiime, also supported the activity and will play a key role in guiding learners as the club begins its weekly activities.
The launch was part of a broader national programme aimed at establishing and supporting ICT Clubs in secondary schools across Uganda. The programme seeks to promote digital literacy, innovation, creativity, project-based learning, and responsible use of technology among learners.
During the training, students were introduced to the purpose and objectives of the ICT Club. They learnt how the club can help them develop practical skills in areas such as mobile app development using MIT App Inventor, coding, internet safety, and digital problem-solving.
The session attracted learners from both lower and upper secondary levels, showing strong and inclusive interest across the school. This participation demonstrated the students’ readiness to embrace technology and use ICT as a tool for learning, creativity, and future career preparation.
One of the key challenges identified during the training was that many of the school computers had technical issues. Some computers were too slow, which limited effective use during the session and made it difficult for the teacher to introduce more advanced digital skills to learners.
The report recommended that a technician should visit the school to assess the computers and advise on the best solution to improve their performance. Addressing this challenge will help the school make better use of its ICT resources and support more effective club activities.
Following the launch, students will continue with weekly ICT Club activities, including digital literacy workshops, project development, coding practice, mobile app development, and preparation for inter-school competitions.
KAWA Uganda and UCC will continue to support Airforce SS Entebbe through mentorship, digital resources, training opportunities, and access to learning platforms such as KAWA CONNECT. With committed school leadership and enthusiastic learners, the ICT Club is expected to grow into a vibrant space for innovation, teamwork, and practical digital learning.
