PARVATIBEN Muljibhai Madhvani commonly known as PMM Girls SS in Jinja City will get huge support from a Leicester City-based charity organization TEAMS (UK).

This was revealed by Zahid Sheikh the founder and coordinator of TEAMS which is an acronym for ‘Together Everyone Achieves More Success’ during a visit to the Indian-founded girls’ day O and A level school.

Zahid Sheikh, while on a guided tour of the school which was hosting a five-day women entrepreneurs conference and exhibition organized by Busoga Business Community, was impressed particularly with the enthusiasm of students in the ICT department.

He also promised to mobilize funds from friends and well-wishers in the UK to give a facelift to the school whose paint has already fallen off and look like a deserted structure.

According to Annette Mukombe, an ICT teacher, PMM Girls is one of the few schools in the region which puts a lot of emphasis on ICT in line with the Government Policy which has created a fully-fledged ministry to spearhead innovations.

The club which was launched by the Uganda communications Communication in February 2022 has already developed the club website with a focus on providing quality information to farmers in Busoga region. This is accompanied by a handy Android App for quick access to information by the public.

The students also have a YouTube channel for sharing all the videos created in English and Lusoga to cater for those who cannot speak English.

“…we shall do everything with friends back in the UK to ensure that these young people who were born and bred in an era of technology get the best support to enhance their skills…,” he said.

Zahid stresses the importance of what he calls the Digital Revolution which has made the whole world a small village and businesses can be executed online from any part of the world.

Relatedly, hundreds of City dwellers especially youth and women in Jinja will stand to benefit from the partnership cooperation between Jinja City Council (JCC) and TEAMS Charity, Leicester City in the United Kingdom.

Jinja Mayor Alton Peter Kasolo, speaker Bernard Mbayo and Moses Lorika the City Clerk signed on behalf of JCC while Zahid Sheikh signed on behalf of TEAMS during a council session held at the City Hall.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two entities, bright children from needy backgrounds in Jinja will be supported with bursaries to facilitate their education and medical care.

Dozens of selected entrepreneurs will also benefit from an exchange programme to compare notes with their UK counterparts so as to expand in their business spheres.

“…the two sides agree to send delegations for business or government representatives to visit at the appropriate time and encourage the people of both organizations,” reads part of the MoU.

Zahid, 61, is also currently doing a documentary dubbed “Once Upon A Time 50 Years Ago Exhibition” depicting the brutal expulsion of more than 50,000 Asians in 1972 by Dictator Iddi Amin who captured state power in a military coup in 1971.

The exhibition will climax on 10 September 2022 with a commemoration in the UK where President Yoweri Museveni is expected to attend and encourage more Asian investors to come to Uganda.
