Pilkington College Muguluka Mobilises 73 Learners for Digital Innovation
Pilkington College Muguluka in Jinja City has taken a strong step towards strengthening learner participation in technology, innovation, and community problem-solving. On 25th February 2026, the school hosted an ICT Club launch and training activity under the KAWA ICT Clubs programme.
The activity was conducted by the KAWA ICT Clubs Team, with Wanyana Valeria serving as the reporting officer. The launch was supported by the school leadership, including the Headteacher, Mulala Peter, and the ICT Club Patron, Muzaale Richard.
The purpose of the visit was to officially establish the ICT Club and introduce both learners and teachers to the objectives of the ICT Clubs programme. The session also encouraged students to think beyond ordinary computer use and begin exploring how technology can be used to identify and solve problems within their school and community.
One of the most encouraging highlights of the day was the strong learner turnout. A total of 73 students from Senior One to Senior Six participated in the activity, together with one teacher. A laptop and projector were used during the training session to support presentation, demonstration, and learner engagement.
During the launch, students were introduced to the ICT Clubs programme and its key objectives. They were sensitised about the importance of technology, digital skills, innovation, and responsible use of ICT resources in education and community development.
The learners were also guided on the role of ICT projects and how they can prepare for future participation in competitions such as the NCC ICT Competition. The session also created awareness about UCC and UCUSAF engagement on ICT matters and the opportunities available for learners who take technology and innovation seriously.
Another important part of the activity was the interaction with the school administration and the ICT Club Patron. This helped clarify how the club will operate within the school and how learners will be guided to participate meaningfully in club activities.
Students were encouraged to join the ICT Club and begin identifying real community problems that can be addressed through technology. This approach is important because it helps learners connect digital skills with practical solutions that can improve people’s lives.
The launch was successful and warmly received by both the learners and the school administration. Pilkington College Muguluka expressed commitment to supporting ICT Club activities and preparing students to participate in technology innovation programmes and competitions.
A few challenges were identified during the activity. Limited internet connectivity may affect access to online learning resources, while teacher training and ICT competency remain important areas for continued support.
The report recommended that the school allocates regular time for ICT Club meetings. It also encouraged the ICT Club Patron to guide learners in developing projects that solve real community problems. In addition, more support is needed to improve access to ICT equipment and digital learning resources.
With 73 learners already introduced to the programme, Pilkington College Muguluka has a strong foundation for building an active ICT Club. With continued support from the school leadership, KAWA, UCC, and UCUSAF, the club has the potential to become a vibrant centre for digital learning, innovation, and learner-led problem-solving in Jinja City.
